Web Browser Privacy Tips

If you are using a shared computer (in a dorm, apartment, computer lab, etc.), please follow procedure detailed below. This will help ensure that your SCC OnLine course log in information is kept private and for your use only.

Note:  If you are not sure which version of Internet Explorer you are using, begin by launching Internet Explorer. Next, click “Help” then “About Internet Explorer” (the version information should appear). If you do not see the “Help” option at the top of the screen, then it is safe to assume that you are using version 7.

  • To clear web browser history, cookies, and temporary files in Internet Explorer version 7:

  1. Make sure that you’ve logged out of your online class and that Internet Explorer version 7 is still running

  2. Click the “Tools” button (at the far right side of the screen) then click “Internet Options”

  3. Click the “Delete” button

  4. From the choices that appear, you may wish to use the “Delete All” option to remove browsing history, cookies, temporary files, and passwords.  Click “Yes” when prompted.

  5. Click “OK”

  • To clear web browser history, cookies, and temporary files in Internet Explorer version 6:

  1. Make sure that you’ve logged out of your online class and that Internet Explorer version 6 is still running

  3. Click the “Delete Cookies” button (please wait for the process to complete), click the “Delete Files” button (again, please wait for the process to complete), and click the “Clear History” button

Note:  At this point, you may also want to set the “Days to keep pages in history” option to zero.

  2. Click the “Clear Passwords” option.

Note:  you may also wish to uncheck the AutoComplete option for user names and passwords
